June 2021 – FRWRD Continues Progress on Construction of Phosphorus Removal Facilities
The District is continuing the construction of over $60 million of improvements at both the North WRF and Albin D. Pagorski WRF to provide for phosphorus removal at these facilities. The improvements include biological phosphorus removal in the aeration process as well as struvite sequestration in the biosolids process. The improvements at these two facilities are expected to be completed and operating in 2022. At that time, effluent phosphorus from the plants will meet a limit of 1.0 mg/L TP. The West WRF already provides both phosphorus and total nitrogen removal.
New User Rates as of September 1, 2021
The District Board of Trustees approved a user rate increase that will take effect as of September 1, 2021. The increase in user rates is needed to pay for IEPA loans for phosphorus removal improvements and the associated depreciation cost of the new facilities. The new user rate ordinance is available here.
