The FRWRD Laboratory performs chemical analysis of domestic and industrial wastewater, sludge, and surface water for a wide variety of parameters. The primary function of the laboratory is to perform the process control testing in support of our three waste water treatment plants and the compliance testing required to meet all Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) regulations.
Some of the pollutants tested for by our laboratory include:
- 25 metals including the heavy metals mercury, cadmium, and lead
- Cyanide
- Phenols
- Ammonia
- Biochemical oxygen demand
In addition to analytical testing for pollutants the laboratory also performs bacterial analysis of our effluents to assure compliance with disinfection regulations.
Since 2002, the FRWRD Laboratory has also provided water quality analysis of the Fox River through its participation in the Fox River Study Group (FRSG). We have been analyzing the Fox River for biochemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, ammonia, total kjeldahl nitrogen, and chlorophyll A as part of our contribution to better understand the water quality issues facing our watershed.
The FRWRD laboratory does occasionally perform testing services for outside entities. This service is on a limited basis and must be coordinated to fit into the schedule of compliance testing for FRWRD facilities. For a schedule of testing fees, click here.
All outside testing services must be coordinated and scheduled directly with laboratory personnel. For more information on testing services, please contact Jack Russell, Laboratory Manager.
